Over the past few weeks we’ve been in financial difficulty over the COVID-19 and we’ve been in fear of closing down. We thank the public so much for their kind donations and to the businesses who have bent over backwards to help us out over these past few weeks. Thank you to our staff for being patient with us. Thank you to our manager Linda Ledger for pushing through all the battles to keep us open for as long as possible.
We are a social enterprise, we depend on our enterprises in the centre as income to keep our doors open. We’ve had to close the doors on our Hair & Beauty Salon, our community café, our florist etc, which had a massive effect on income. We cannot afford to keep going in these hard times. We’ve tried effortlessly to keep things moving for the people of Limerick and surrounding areas.
Unfortunately, as of two weeks ago, we have had to let more of our staff go due to this virus as we cannot continue paying staff that aren’t the core Meals on Wheels staff, with the way this impact has taken us, like so many of the businesses in Ireland.
With regards to Meals on Wheels for the elderly & most vulnerable is still in operation & we are still delivering for the next two weeks. Please keep an eye on our social media for updates.
So please we urge the public if you are elderly, sick or cocooning please get in touch to have dinners delivered to your door. All of our drivers are Garda vetted & we will do everything we can to ensure the safety of both you and our drivers. Call us on (061) 458 651 before 11am so we can be prepared. Our food is freshly made daily, with a different main course Monday to Saturday along with dessert, the cost is €5 delivered.
Recently before the virus, we put our fourth meals on wheels van on the roads due to the demand for our services across the city and county of Limerick that we previously could not reach, but right now the demand is so much more.
As of a few weeks ago, we have expanded our range to Clarina & Patrickswell. To include more areas, we’ve been in contact with other community centre’s that don’t have a Meals on Wheels service and have lend support offering that we would cook dinners & deliver them to their centres for people to collect them there locally.
Each day there is more and more calls to the centre for the demand of Meals, so realistically we can’t put a number on it as it changes daily. Before the corona virus, we were delivering about 200 dinners daily but that has risen immensely.
If anyone would like to DONATE to our go fund me page ( gf.me/u/xrajfz
) to help assist us to get through and feed the most vulnerable at the crucial time.
Again, we would like to thank the public, for their continuous support & patience throughout this process, we understand it has been a worrying time. At this present time we cannot take on anymore volunteers as we have to adhere to social distancing but thank you for all of your offers.
